PH, UAE officials to meet for household service workers deployment

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will meet representatives from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the possible resumption of the deployment of household workers in the Arab country.

In a report on Business Mirror, DOLE will discuss issues on providing a standard employment contract for Household Service Workers (HSWs) in the UAE.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III also said that the talks could lead to the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement with UAE if they accept the SEC proposal.

“The high-level delegation will arrive on the first week of February for possible signing of the MOA,” Bello said.

Philippine Overseas Employment Administration chief Bernard Olalia added that a standard contract is necessary before the government allows the deployment of HSWs.

“The SEC is needed to ensure the protection of our OFWs there,” Olalia said.

The Gulf state has its own version of SEC previously implemented in 2014, but the conditions wanted by the Philippine government were not present at that time.
