PH to issue emergency approval on AstraZeneca this week

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) hopes to issue its emergency approval decision on British manufacturer AstraZeneca for its COVID-19 vaccine this week.

FDA chief Eric Domingo told the media that an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) might be given soon to AstraZeneca, possibly the second one to get an approval from the Philippines.

Most of the local government units in the country signed a tripartite deal with AstraZeneca together with the national government.

Pooled results from AstraZeneca vaccine trials show it had a 70.4 per cent efficacy rate.

Domingo said that they are also asking for additional requirements from Russia’s Gamaleya and China’s Sinovac as they begin their clinical trials in the country.

The FDA has so far given the only and first EUA to Pfizer -BioNTech early this month.
