The Health Department is still tracing three more close contacts of the Filipino patient who tested positive for the new UK COVID-19 variant.
The patient arrived from the United Arab Emirates, and became the first confirmed case of the new UK variant.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that out of the 213 close contacts, they are still tracing three more contacts.
“Ngayon tatlo na lang po ang hindi natin natutunton. Kagabi nahanap natin ‘yung isa uli. Tatlo na lang po. Dalawang taga-National Capital Region at saka isang taga-Region 7,” she told GMA News.
Thirteen of the patient’s close contacts tested positive for COVID-19, but the DOH has yet to confirm if they were positive of the new UK variant. These were his eight co-passengers in a flight and five close contacts.
Samples from the five close contacts have been sent to the Philippine Genome Center to determine through genome sequencing if they were also infected with the UK variant.
The DOH official said that new samples will be collected from 8 co-passengers.
“Ang kanila pong CT values are more than 30 kaya hindi po siya puwedeng ma-sequence at maisama doon sa pino-proseso natin. So they will be reswabbed,” she added.
On Wednesday, the DOH said that the mother and the girlfriend of the male patient also tested positive for the virus.
The girlfriend however initially tested negative for the virus and has been isolated since arrival to the country. (TDT)
