Netizens criticize Cayetano, allies for ‘using BTS for attention’

Former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and some of his remaining allies drew flak on Wednesday after they used the Korean group ‘BTS’ in what could be another political move.

The hashtag #CayetanoStopUsingBTS trended on Twitter. Filipino ARMY accused Cayetano of riding on the group’s fame after revealing that he will name his new House bloc after the global superstars. BTS’s ARMY fandom is known to be vocal on social media.

“They used BTS for this clout. The Philippine government doesn’t know how powerful ARMYs are… Mali ang kinalaban ni Cayetano, grabe ang galit ng ARMY’s ngayon haha #CayetanoStopUsingBTS,” a netizen said.

“You’re definitely messing up with the wrong artist, company and fandom. Nakakahiya to. #CayetanoStopUsingBTS,”  another fan commented.

Cayetano, along with Camarines Sur Rep. Ray Villafuerte, Laguna Rep. Dan Fernandez, Batangas Rep. Ranie Abu, Anakalusugan’s Mike Defensor, Bulacan Rep. Kuya Sy-Alvarado, and Capiz Rep. Fred Castro, will be introducing themselves as “BTS sa Kongreso”.

They will be launching their group formally this week. It’s unclear though on why the group chose the name  BTS.

Cayetano was ousted by the majority of lawmakers at the House of Representatives from his post after his refusal to honor the term-sharing deal with now House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco. (TDT)
