In just 10 seconds, Abu Dhabi’s Meena Plaza comprising of four towers with a total of 144 floors was demolished on Friday morning using a controlled implosion.
The demolition was commissioned by the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT).
In a video uploaded by the Abu Dhabi Media Office on Twitter, the unfinished towers located in the Mina Zayed area were flattened following the highest safety standards.
“The demolition of Mina Plaza Towers, part of Mina Zayed redevelopment project, was successfully and safely concluded in 10 seconds. @AbuDhabiDMT would like to thank all participating parties and the public for their cooperation and adherence to precautionary safety measures,” DTM said.
A week before this, the authorities announced closure of access roads to the area.
The entire demolition was carried out in coordination of DMT with Abu Dhabi Police, Civil Defense, and the National Crisis and Disasters Management Authority and National Ambulance.
DMT has appointed Modon Properties to execute the demolition.
Aside from the towers, stalls in the wharf area have also been demolished as part of the 3 million square meter project to transform the area into an integrated commercial and residential destination.
