His Holiness Pope Francis has clearly expressed his support towards the creation of civil union laws that will legalize and provide rights for same-sex couples.
In the feature-length documentary “Francesco”, Pope Francis stated the importance of the creation of a law that will legalize the union of individuals of the same sex who wish to spend their forever together.
“What we have to create is a civil union law. That way they are legally covered,” said Pope Francis in the film that was released in Rome on October 21.

Reports from the Washington Post revealed that Pope Francis did not make any statements on extending marriage for same-sex couples in the documentary. However, His Holiness welcomed and stated that they
“They’re children of God and have a right to a family. Nobody should be thrown out, or be made miserable because of it,” said His Holiness during his interview with the filmmaker, Evgeny Afineevsky.
