The Department of Foreign Affairs has reported that 317 Filipinos have been repatriated Beirut, Lebanon on Saturday.
The DFA said that the 317 repatriates boarded a special chartered flight from the Philippine Airlines. This is the second batch of the government’s repatriation following the explosions that hit the country last August.
“The twin missions demonstrate the continuing commitment of the Philippine Government to assist Filipinos who wish to return home as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and other challenges, as well as the solidarity of the Filipino nation with the Lebanese people,” the DFA said in a statement.
The two-day mission also included the delivery of food supplies for Filipinos in Lebanon and the turnover of medical supplies to Lebanese groups and hospitals.
President Rodrigo Duterte previously said in the United Nations General Assembly the importance of the contribution of
Filipino migrant workers.
At least 193,000 Filipinos have been repatriated from around the world since February 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
