His Excellency Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad bin Nasser Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, and Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs, received his first dose of the vaccine against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in line with the Ministry of Health and Protection’s (MoHaP)’s guidelines to provide the COVID-19 vaccine for specified groups who are in the country’s first line of defense.

Dr. Al Owas stated that they intend to ensure the safety of the UAE’s heroes on the frontlines to protect them from any dangers they may face due to the nature of their work.

He assured the public that the COVID-19 vaccine is completely compatible with the regulations and laws that allow a faster review of licensing procedures, following the positive results from the ongoing clinical trials which are conducted and monitored by the UAE’s health sector.

Earlier, the COVID-19 vaccine was approved for use in emergency cases after authorities explained that it is safe, effective and is aimed at reducing losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ministry also noted that, aside from minimal pain in the throat, they did not record any serious side effects that require medical intervention, and that the preliminary results are positive—with volunteers successfully generating antibodies against the virus.

“The studies conducted by our research, health and scientific sectors will contribute to having a safe and efficient vaccine the soonest possible. What we need with these positive steps today of these clinical trials, is that you continue complying with the precautionary measures to ensure safety and wellbeing of all,” said Dr. Farida Al Hosani, UAE’s official spokesperson for the health sector.
