Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that President Rodrigo Duterte wanted Vice President Maria Leonor Robredo to put politics to the side and help the government in its battle against (COVID-19).
In an interview with CNN, Roque said that Duterte wants Robredo to help and just forget politics for a minute.
“I guess the President is saying, the Vice President is welcome to help. He recognizes this, that she has been helping as far as providing assistance to our people [is] concerned. But right now, set aside politics and continue with helping the people in these very trying times,” he said in an interview with CNN Philippines’ The Source.
Philippine News Agency also reported that in a public address, Duterte also appealed to Robredo to not make the situation worse by issuing statements that could generate more criticisms for the government. This follows the Vice President’s statement that the country appears to have “no leader” amid the crisis.
The President said any remark against the administration’s initiatives to alleviate the crisis would only “destroy the government.”
“Now is not the time for politicking. Now is the time to focus on [Covid-19],” Roque added.
