Lebanon’s entire cabinet set to resign following Beirut blast

Lebanon’s cabinet is set to resign from their respective positions following the catastrophic blast that took place in Beirut last week.

“The whole government resigned” Lebanon Health Minister Hamad Hassan revealed to reporters and furthered that Prime Minister Hassan Diab will personally head to the presidential palace to submit the resignation on behalf of all the ministers, according to reports from the Evening Standard.

The Beirut blast that took place last August 4 has already claimed the lives of over 200 individuals including four Filipinos. 6,000 more living in nearby areas got mild to severe injuries.

Reports estimate that 300,000 people were left homeless in the aftermath of the blast with incurred losses of around $34.5 to $51.8 million dollars.

The explosion was believed to have been caused by a fire that ignited piles of explosive material that has been stored at a port in Beirut since 2013.

World leaders and other international organizations have already pledged around $1 billion dollars in emergency humanitarian aid for Beirut – provided that Lebanese authorities would commit themselves towards both economic and political reforms demanded by their own citizens.
