Manila’s former mayor Alfredo Lim passed away on August 8, Saturday. He was 90.
His daughter, Cynthia Lim, confirmed her father’s tragic death as per reports from CNN Philippines.
On August 7, incumbent Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso confirmed that Lim contracted the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Alfredo Lim held several posts in the government from his Mayorial days from 1992 and his successful reelection bid in 1995. He also served as the Philippine gov’t Interior Secretary from 2000 to 2001 and was voted as a Senator for one term that began in 2004. In 1998, Lim attempted to vie for the country’s highest post but lost to Joseph Estrada.
The former president paid his respects to Lim.
“Magkatunggali man kami sa pulitika, alam ko na iisa lang ang aming hangarin, ang aming hangarin, ang mabigyan ng magandang buhay ang mahihirap nating mga kababayan lalo na ang Masang Manilenyo,” said Estrada on his Facebook account.
