Five members of a family in Naguilian, Isabela caught the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) after attending their relative’s funeral.
According to a report from Pilipino Star Ngayon citing the Department of Health (DOH), the family members were exposed to a 56-year-old woman who is now confined at the Southern Isabela Medical Center in Santiago City due to severe coughing.
The said patient was a locally stranded individual (LSI) who came home to Barangay Magsaysay in Naguillan from Quezon City so she could attend the funeral rites of one of her deceased relatives.
The five family members were all asymptomatic, but they were placed under isolation in a quarantine facility in their barangay.
Due to the incident, the entire barangay was also placed on lockdown for contact tracing purposes.
DOH has reported a total of 13 new COVID-19 cases in Cagayan Valley (Region 2).
Two more cases were recorded in Ilagan City and the other one was from the town of Luna.
Another case – an Overseas Filipino Worker – was reported in Alfonso Castañeda, Nueva Vizcaya and three LSIs tested positive in Cagayan.
As of this posting, Cagayan Valley now has a total of 333 COVID-19 cases.
