Saudi allocates $4.5 billion (Dhs16.5 billion) to help residents affected by COVID-19

Saudi Arabia has announced that it has designated around SR17 billion (Dhs16.5 billion) to help workers who were hit by the crisis caused by coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, Arab News reported.
According to the Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development spokesperson Nasser bin Abdulrahman, the allocation is part of the Kingdom’s efforts to support all sectors and the people who are currently dealing with job loss and financial burdens.
In addition, the ministry also announced that expats whose residency permits would expire before June 30 will be exempted from financial fees, and that their permits will be extended for three more months.
Al Hazani also reminded employees that employers cannot force them to take unpaid leave without their consent.

The spokesman also said that Saudi is one of the few countries able to contain the spread of the virus, with its precautionary measures proving to be working as the number of cases declines significantly.
