2 Filipinas fall victim to sex trafficking scheme in Bahrain

Two Filipino women, who were promised jobs in a salon in Bahrain, ended up as prey of a sex trafficking scheme by a compatriot, GMA News reported.
The women, given the names “Faith” and “Hope”, were recruited by a fellow migrant worker in October 2018.
They did not expect to be working as sex slaves and faced with the threat of imprisonment if they refused.

Their phones were taken from them and their every move was monitored.
Faith became emotional as she recounted their ordeal.
“‘Yung araw na ‘yun, naka-sampu akong lalaki. Sampung lalaki na, pakiramdam ko sa sarili ko, ang dumi dumi ko,” she said.
They were trapped for two months and were able to escape in December 2018. They returned to the Philippines in February 2019.

A medical examination was conducted on the victims, results showed signs that they contracted a sexually transmitted disease.
Fahad Alasmi of Bahrain’s Labour Market Regulatory Authority said their complaint was a sufficient basis to classify their cases as human trafficking and for the conduct of an investigation.
As of this post, the Filipino suspects and one police officer in Bahrain are detained.
The victims were given financial assistance by the Bahrain government and the Department of Foreign Affairs.
