PH Consulate General in Jeddah officially opens community library

The Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Jeddah has officially opened its community library last December 5.

The Jeddah PCG Community Library was formally inaugurated during the second State of Post Address (SOPA) of Consul General Ed Badajos held at the Jeddah PCG grounds.

During his SOPA, Consul General Badajos said that the Jeddah PCG Community Library was established to promote learning and love for reading among the Filipino youth and all Filipinos in Saudi Arabia.

“While it is true that we are already in the digital age where online learning resources are readily available, studies show that learners of all ages tend to absorb information better when they’re reading on the paper than on screens,” he said.

To fill-up the library with reading materials, Jeddah PCG launched a book donation campaign called “Bibo Ako” or “Bitbit kong Libro Para sa Konsulado” where every Filipino in Jeddah and the Western Region is encouraged to donate a book or two to the Consulate.

Since launching the project on October 1, the Library has received a great number of book donations from various institutions and individuals. Consul General Badajos noted that the collaborative efforts of the Consulate and the Filipino Community indicate the thriving bayanihan spirit in the Filipino community in Saudi Arabia.

The Jeddah PCG Community Library will be open from 8 AM to 5 PM, Sundays to Thurdays, to the Filipino community for research work or academic activities.
