Reema Juffali, Saudi Arabia’s first female car racer, will soon conquer the male-dominated car racing sports.
The Kingdom has overturned a ban on female motorists last June as part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s liberalization drive.
The 27-year-old car racer will compete this week at the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY, an all-electric race in Diriyah, close to the capital Riyadh.
“The ban was lifted last year, and I never expected to race professionally,” AFP quoted Juffali as saying.
“The fact that I am doing it… is amazing,” Juffali added.
Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Faisal, Saudi Arabia’s sports authority chief, said that this is a watershed moment for Saudi Arabia.
Juffali has been doing professional car racing for about a year now. Her passion for car racing started after watching Formula One series.
She dreams of competing at Le Mans in France someday.
