Man’s bank account emptied after phone call

An old Kuwaiti man got the shock of his life when he discovered that his entire bank account has been emptied just after he received a phone call asking him to provide details of his cash card.

The man, in his 70s, said he had nearly KD3,000 ($10,000) in the bank and that all the funds vanished on the same day.

He told police that he received a phone call from a presumably local man claiming he was from the bank.

“He told police that the man asked him to have his ATM card updated… the anonymous man said he could help him if he provided him with the card PIN number and other details,” the Arabic language daily Al Anba said.

“The man told police that soon afterwards, he received 6 text messages from the bank saying that he had withdrawn KD500 six times and that his account was empty… the man said he tried to contact the bank after receiving the first message but that the thieves were too fast.”
