Fitness experts hold sports event in Saudi for breast cancer patients

Three female fitness coaches have organized a sports and entertainment event to help women battling breast cancer, Arab News reported.

The “Fit Fighters,” held last October 12, aims to raise awareness about this illness, as well as the importance of early detection.

One of the organizers, RK Fit owner and calisthenics coach Reham Kamal, said that support plays a major role in women’s fight against breast cancer because many patients feel a part of their femininity is lost because of this illness.

“Moral support is needed because when patients receive news that they have breast cancer, they experience shock. Along with physical treatment, moral support plays a major role in the healing process,” Arab News quoted Kamal as saying.

She added that part of this moral support is to encourage one’s female loved ones to have regular health examinations, as the success rate of treatment with early detection is higher than 90 percent.

Fitness studio House of Agility owner Mashael Fagerah, another organizer, said that the event also supported patients through sports activities and fitness, saying that exercise helps with the patients’ physical and mental health.

“Fit Fighters” was held at Le pont De L’amitie in Jeddah. A portion of the entry fees was donated to the Zahra Breast Cancer Association.
