Chinese jailed in Bahrain for using fake credit cards

A Chinese national convicted for using fake credit cards in Bahrain said his chat mate urged him and promised him a commission to do the crime, The Daily Tribune News of Bahrain reported.

The High Criminal Court convicted him after it was proven that he was withdrawing huge amounts of money from various ATMs around the kingdom using forged credit cards.

The convict said that he was working in the UAE as a driver when he logged on to a chatroom and met a guy. The guy requested him to fly to Bahrain and withdraw large amounts of money using fake credit cards. His even told him he will be given a commission for it.

A local bank reported the Chinese national to the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic after he made several attempts to extract cash from its ATM using fake credit cards that belong to a Chinese bank.

A group of detectives tracking him arrested him at a local mall after he attempted to withdraw cash from an ATM machine inside. The detectives told the prosecutors that they found in his apartment a laptop and fake credit cards, as well as Bahraini dinars and UAE dirhams.

The Chinese man was convicted with fraud and forgery, and was fined for B10,000.
