Saudi signs 16 deals to combat blindness worldwide

Saudi Arabia’s aid agency has signed deals with an international health charity in its efforts to battle blindness around the world, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) finalized 16 agreements with Al-Basar International Foundation for medical missions in the countries of Bangladesh, Yemen, Cameroon, Nigeria, Morocco, Eritrea and Pakistan.

KSRelief’s assistant general supervisor of planning and development affairs represented the agency in the signing of the deal, which was also attended by the foundation’s secretary-general, Dr. Adel bin Abdul Aziz Al-Rashoud

Saudi Press Agency reported that the programs that will take place in this deal will involve medical check-ups on 100,000 cases, 10,000 vision-related operations, and the distribution of 20,000 medical glasses.

The agency is also carrying out various aid projects in Syria and Yemen, which includes distribution of food, and conducting health care missions, vocational training, and education.

According to KSRelief’s report, more than 1,000 aid programs have benefited displaced people in 44 countries since 2014. The kingdom has also spent $87 billion (SR326 billion) on humanitarian aid to 81 countries in a span of over two decades.
