3D printing rising in Saudi construction

Saudi Arabia’s construction booms with its use of 3D printing as part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 which aims to increase home ownership among locals, Arab News reported.

In a report by Saudi Press Agency, the new technology is one of the innovations being used to transform the kingdom’s construction sector as part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 reform plan, which seeks to create more homes for its citizens.

The 3D printing is also part of the Vision 2030’s plan to see a digital transformation in Saudi society.

The use of 3D printing, Arab News reported, also results in rapid completion and 60 percent reduction in waste—resulting in cutting costs by five to 20 percent. One of the cities that now use 3D printing is Taif, with over 4,700 housing units constructed within hours through the use of the said technology.

The innovation in Saudi’s housing sector is done by The Building Technology Stimulus Initiative, which is overseen by the Housing Program and the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program.
