Over 1K OFWs hired in KSA through gov’t-to-gov’t negotiations

Over a thousand Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) were successfully hired in Saudi Arabia through the Philippine government’s labor agreement and negotiations with the Kingdom, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) said last September 9.

In a report by Philippine News Agency, POEA announced that the kingdom’s Ministry of Health hired 1,188 Filipinos in different departments through the Saudi Recruitment Office—including doctors, dentists, pharmacists, midwives, medical technicians, nurses, and administrative staff.

The move is part of the agency’s Government Placement Branch initiative to deploy thousands of OFWs through government-to-government arrangements with countries the Philippines has labor agreements with—such as Saudi Arabia, Japan, Germany, and South Korea.

From January to July 2019, over 4,000 OFWs were hired in these countries as health workers and factory workers.
