Prince Sultan: Saudi should uphold disability rights

Prince Sultan bin Salman, chairman of King Salman Center for Disability Research (KSCDR) board of trustees, said that now is the time to raise awareness on physical and mental impairments, Arab News reported.

The prince said this at the signing of the as memorandum of understanding (MoU) between KSCDR and the kingdom’s Human Rights Commission to promote and protect the rights of persons with disabilities.

The MoU follows an initiative that will highlight the detection of 20 genetic disorders leading to mental underdevelopment and morbidity conditions. In a report by Arab News, the prince said that the MoU will include review and development of the relevant regulations, rules, and procedures with regards to this domain.

The MoU was co-signed by Prince Sultan bin Salman and Dr. Bandar bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, president of the Human Rights Commission.

The prince added that it is important for the kingdom to lead the world in protecting the rights of people with disabilities as Saudi’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has also been advocating for this segment of society for more than three decades now.
