Dream of having own house turns into nightmare in Saudi

A Saudi family is distraught over the fall of their new house in Jeddah on Tuesday, Saudi Gazette reported.

The villa, owned by Al-Jahdali family, suddenly collapsed when the roof fell down Tuesday morning without warning. According to home owner Khaled Al-Jahdali, they have bought the house just five years ago.

Jahdali said they purchased the house for SR1.5 million through a bank loan, and that they are to pay it in monthly instalments of SR12,000 for a period of 12 years.

“I still have seven years to complete paying the price of the villa,” he told Saudi Gazette.

According to Jahdali, the family heard the sound of the roof collapsing at around 10 AM. He said that they are thankful no one was killed or injured.

The Saudi Civil Defense has asked them to vacate the villa before as it was on the verge of collapse. However he said, “The problem is that we have nowhere to go. We do not own another house in Jeddah.”
