Thousands of Filipino-Muslims to join Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi

Around 6900 Filipino-Muslim pilgrims have signed up for this year’s Hajj, which is expected to last until August 14.

The Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam, is an obligatory pilgrimage duty for adult Muslims with financial, physical, and emotional capacity.

The Philippine Embassy in Saudi Arabia and the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah, led by Ambassador Adnan V. Alonto and Consul General Edgar Badajos, have already welcomed the first batch of Filipino-Muslims—around 900 pilgrims—last July 10.

Besides the Hajj, the four other duties of Islam include Shahaddah (profession of faith), Salat (five-daily prayers), Sawm (Ramadan fasting), and Zakat (charity participation).

The Philippine Embassy and the Philippine Consulate General have deployed teams to guarantee the smooth stay of the pilgrims in the Kingdom, together with representatives from the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos.
