LOOK: American home furnishing store sells humble bilao for P15,000!

When NFTs continue to take the art world by storm, selling themselves for billions, how can indigenous art forms not claim some fame and moolah for itself?

Our humble bilao, mostly seen in panciterias, is being sold at $299 or nearly P15,000.

Netizens are going nuts with the glory it has got!

American home furnishing store Pottery Barn’s website has put “Bamboo Wall Art” up for sale. On its website, the home furnishing store has described bilao as something to “round out your accent wall” with an “impressive woven art piece made from bamboo”.

“Reminiscent of open-air market selling baskets, with a slightly concave shape and shallow rim, it adds warmth, texture and eclectic style wherever it’s hung,” it added.

The bilao is not just your regular bilao, the Pottery Barn website would like you to believe. It’s “handcrafted from bamboo,” it is “imported,” it’s all of 42″ and with a mounting hardware, too!

The retailer also has suggestions on how to care of the bilao: use only soft, dry cloth to dust, and please, lay off “harsh household chemicals as they can damage the finish.”

Much like Muji’s P265 tabo, or rather water dipper, Filipino netizens are chuckling at the P15,000-bilao being sold in the US.

Some say they regret not keeping the bilao from the last time they ate pancit saying it could have made them rich.
