Filipino bags Grand Prize at Al Hathboor Art & Photography Competition 2021

A Filipino’s keen eye for art and aesthetics was recognized once again at an art and photo competition in Dubai.

Dubai-based OFW Crisencio ‘Cris’ Bernabe was hailed as the Grand Prize Winner for the Art category of the Al Hathboor Art and Photography Competition 2021 for his masterpiece created with strokes of a circular ballpen.

“I selected this artwork which I created and patiently done using circular ballpen strokes. I’ve tried to experiment using this medium directly on a white canvas and for me, it works and the outcome is surprisingly worth it,” said Bernable.

Bernabe states that his piece was selected as one of the finalists and was asked by the organizers to attend the actual awarding ceremony. During that phone call, he didn’t know that he was going to be awarded the top prize.

“When they announced Grand Prize Winner for Artwork category by mentioning my name, I was really surprised and overwhelmed to receive the award. I think the jury members must have selected my artwork because of the originality of my subject and the creativity of using this kind of unusual medium like a pen or ballpen to create such kind of masterpiece,” said Bernabe.

The Dubai-based architect states that this is an affirmation of his passion for the arts and considers the win as a blessing especially during these challenging times of the pandemic.

“The first words that came to my mouth is to thank God for this wonderful blessing during these uncertain times. Isa itong milestone sa buhay ko since my first passion is my love for the visual arts,” said Bernabe.
