A Filipina based in Abu Dhabi lost 14 kilograms in just six months after she decided to undergo a lifestyle change motivated by the desire to be healthy for her children.
Nelma Ramos, 40, said that she decided to lose weight at the height of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic back in April, because she said she wanted to be healthy enough to have more time with her children.
“My motivation is my children. I have a 10-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter. I want to be with them longer,” she said. “I gained a lot of weight after giving birth to my youngest, and since I’m working front line need to be presentable.”
When Ramos started her low-carb, no-sugar diet, intermittent fasting, and regular jogging, she was at 69 kilograms. Six months later, she said she has now hit 55.55 kilograms.
“I was advised by my group to eat low carb and less sugary foods so as not to feel hungry, so I stopped eating rice and I cut down sugar. I’m also counting my calorie intake, and jogging after duty. It really works,” she added.
She said she never thought she still had a chance at losing weight, but she’s happy to have achieved her goal, and be able to wear dresses in small to medium sizes.
Ramos also said it’s okay to have a cheat day and eat food you’re craving for, but in moderation.
“Dapat isipin natin na maging healthy because health is wealth lalo na ngayong pandemya. Kung gusto mo, pumayat discipline lang talaga at self-control,” she said.
