WATCH: Grandmother plays ‘Auld Lang Syne’ on piano amid debris of Beirut blast

A piece of comforting music filled the air of a damaged apartment owned by a Beirut resident.

Hoda Melki has captured the moment her mother played the song “Auld Lang Syne” on the piano amidst the debris, a day after the major explosion hit Lebanon’s capital on Tuesday evening.

Auld Lang Syne, a traditional New Year’s song and a Scottish folklore song, means “old long since” or “for old times past”.

Netizens who watched and shared the video commented that listening to it is “heartbreaking yet beautiful” at the same time.

The video was shared 22,000 times on Facebook, as of this posting.

Prayers poured in on the comment section of Melki’s post on her Facebook account and encouraged the people of Beirut to be strong and take courage to stand up.

Just like the song Auld Lang Syne that Melki’s mother plays, it somehow sends the message to all those who are suffering from the tragedy that they could still put the past behind and move forward to a new day.
