UAE-based Pinay CEO: OFW women measure success by their positive impact in families’ lives

As the world tiptoes towards the 4th Industrial Revolution, overseas Filipino women conquer fears with grace, exude strength and wisdom, as well as set an example of leadership to all women out there by fostering positive impact to the lives of their families and communities.
All this makes overseas Pinays successful, underscored Dr. Karen Remo, the CEO and Co-Founder of New Perspective Media (NPM) Group.
Remo was one of eight empowered Filipinas invited to speak in a gathering to celebrate International Women’s Day on Friday March 6, 2020 that was organized by the Philippine Consulate in Dubai, in partnership with the Ateneo School of Government Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship.
The forum featured eight empowered Filipinas in the region including Dra. Yasmin Balajadia-Cortes, Prime Group CEO Dr. Mary Jane Alvero Al Mahdi, PHD Media Business Unit Director Roxane Negrillo, Professional Life Coach Lou Olvido-Parroco, Dagaz HR Consultancy Managing Director Cristina Calaguian, Sanofi Communications and CSR Director Jorhie Alban, and The Filipino Channel Broadcast Journalist Rachel Salinel.
Along with these Filipino women in the UAE who continue to break the glass ceilings in various sectors, Remo encourages women to pursue their dreams as she believes that success is achieved by facing one’s fears.
Traveling to the UAE, she told the female attendees at the event, is an achievement in itself since they managed to make it in this world-class country—which remains a distant dream for many.
Remo has made a name for herself in the UAE. She heads the 360-degree media, marketing and communications agency NPM and is the publisher of The Filipino Times, which is the largest Filipino newspaper in the UAE and the biggest digital platform for the Filipino in the Middle East.

She lauded the courage of all overseas Filipino women for they measure their success by the positive impact they make in the lives of their respective families and communities. Admirably, they endure selfless sacrifices in their bid to be successful not for themselves but for their entire families.
She summed up her insights on Filipinas’ success in three reasons:
1. The journey of every OFW woman to UAE is a success story
Remo underscored that the mere fact that Filipino women conquered their fears to be an OFW, albeit the thought of being away from their families, is a tale of success. They are driven, she said, to see the horizon with a new perspective by turning their doubts and fears to something that would benefit their families back home which perfectly describes the resiliency of Filipinas.
2. Penetrating this world-class country is a success in itself
The UAE is not only a melting pot of nationalities but also an oasis of brilliant minds. This said, Remo emphasized that it is not easy to make it here in the UAE because so many others strive very hard to be part of the UAE community. “The Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab… What do you think these places have in common?” she asked the attendees. “Kayo po ay nasa world-class country. You are in the safest country in the world,” Remo said, emphasizing that alone is a feat in itself.
3. Success follows optimism
“People underestimate the capability of a human being to be resilient during challenges and while surpassing challenges… We’re successful because we’re making positive impact in everyone’s lives,” Remo related.
Remo said she salutes every Filipina in the UAE for she knows that success has a price. “We painfully and courageously pay for it because success is not about how successful we are but how successful they’ve become—the most important people in our lives. And for that, you are all successful.”
