Three Filipino students from the Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas high school won a literature and debate competition in the United States last week.

Three students won gold at the Debate category and the silver award at the Team Writing Scholar’s Cup Tournament of Champions at the Yale University.

Part of the group are Grade 11 student Yvette Frances Ortega.

“Ang pinakagusto ko po siguro is the speaking po. I really love expressing my thoughts, to express myself and be able to convince other people know my side my perspective through my eyes,” Ortega told ABS-CBN News.

Her two colleagues also could not believe that they won at Yale.

“Representing my country is really a pressure that’s for sure, but it’s really an honor to represent the country, not just the institution,” Kielle Imrei Tria told ABS-CBN News.

“Overwhelming. It is one one of the best feeling you could possibly have as a student especially my grade, Grade 10, junior high school, it’s one of the best experiences that every student should be able to experience,” Mark Joshua Noche said.

The students prepared for two months and it is their first time to join the competition.

“Its something so big and so grand that you would be immersed to diffent culture all over the world. I think the most amazing thing about this is you get to learn from experience not just from the books,” their coach said.
