We got to admit, it’s not always fun to pay for and travel with heavy check-in luggage. Imagine backpacking across cities and countries, walking on cobbled streets or snowy cities, and you’re burdened by big, weighty suitcases—all because you don’t know the basics of packing light.
If you want to make your travel a little less hassling, to be able to spend more time actually enjoying the destination, know these tips on how to pack for a trip using only a carry on:
Create a packing list, and stick to it
If you don’t have a list, you’ll end up throwing in stuff in your luggage, most of which you’ll realize you don’t really need and are just taking up space. Before you start packing, make sure to jot down just the important things you need to bring, and stick only to that list.
Invest in multipurpose clothes and accessories
Clothes are usually the things that take up most of our luggage space—the main reason we over-pack in the first place. If you’re a frequent traveler, you should know by now that investing in versatile clothing is a smart choice because they can be used in many seasons, and in various ways. Some of these include jacket, scarves, and sunglasses. Reversible clothes can also give you two outfits that will only take up one space!
Have travel organizers
Packing organizers or travel cubes are probably one of the best travel essentials to invest in. They help you easily organize your clothes, shoes, gadgets, and accessories, and lessen the chance of you turning your luggage inside out whenever you need to get something.
Book with an accommodation that offers free amenities
There’s no need to pack toiletries or towels if we stay at hotels that offer them for free. We also recommend choosing temporary homes that provide laundry services or are near laundromats because that way, we can avoid bringing too many clothes.
Invest in a luggage scale
Packing becomes a lot easier with a luggage scale, and it also keeps you from sacrificing shoes or clothes at the check-in counter. Make sure to invest in one.
Get the right carry-on suitcase
You can follow all the rules mentioned above but if you do not have a hand-carry luggage that meets the size restrictions of most airlines, has many organizing pockets, or easy-maneuvering features like spinning wheels on all sides—then everything will be moot.
