Married couples get fat because they are happy together — study

Getting married has its own perks and disadvantages. For some however, it is quite noticeable that couples who got married also tend to gain weight during the course of their married life.

But is gaining weight for couples connected to marriage?

A new study has revealed that men and women tend to be overweight when they get married compared to their years as singles.

Data show that a person will gain an average of 36 pounds when he or she enters the dating scene.

Another 17 extra pounds will be gained for the first year alone. Some 24 pounds will be gained in the next five years. The weight gain is the same with couples who are living in together.

The study also showed that men tend to be obese when in a relationship.

Studies have revealed that couples gain weight because they see food as a form of family bonding and they eat larger portions than singles.

Married couples tend to influence each other with bad eating habits like eating unhealthy snacks and when the pregnant wife is craving for a different kind of food, researchers say.

Psychologist Wyatt Fisher says that married couples can still strive to be healthy.

They can also turn their bonding time to more healthy choices and lifestyle like going to the gym together.
