An overseas Filipino couple based in Dubai proves that love and basketball go hand-in-hand.
In a heart-pounding yet sweet proposal in front of their friends, Anthony Andrew Telow put a ring on it after scripting a spat with another player in the middle of their basketball game last October 28.
The 34-year-old customer service representative popped the question to his girlfriend Analyn Cavida, who works as a travel coach in the emirate.
A video of the proposal uploaded on Digimarko Photography Dubai Facebook page caught netizen’s fancy and quickly made the rounds online.
To pull off his proposal, he asked his basketball buddies in Dubai to suit up in this once in a lifetime “game” that would forever lock up their love as a couple.
The skit? His friends were all his “accomplices” but their act must hold together to score a resounding yes from Analyn.
It seemed like a normal Monday night for Analyn, who came to watch his game.
“Every Monday may papawis night ang Court Kings and kasali sya sa basketball. Lagi nya akong sinasabihan na manood pero tinatamad ako. Pero nung Oct. 28 pinilit nya akong manood. Hindi daw pwede… So kahit tinatamad ako eh pumunta na din ako,” Analyn told The Filipino Times.
However, Andrew got involved in a “spat”. The players quickly surrounded the two players to cover up the real thing, as seen in the video.
Meanwhile, Analyn felt the tension when some players said, “Buhatin nyo si Telow.”
“Hindi ko alam kung lalapit ako kasi nga nag kakagulo. I was looking for his bestfriend. Hihingi sana ko ng tulong eh kaso hindi ko mahagilap. Then my friend Diane, tinapik nya ako. Dun pa lang ako natauhan na puntahan ko. May lumapit saken na ka team nya asking kung kakilala ko daw,” she said.
Startled, she rushed towards the center of the court. This, as Andrew’s friends slipped him the ring and a bouquet of white roses.
When Analyn found her way through, Andrew suddenly brought out the box containing the engagement ring, gave her the bouquet and then popped the question.
“In front of all these people, will you marry me?” he asked her.
Analyn related to TFT, “Pag lapit ko inopen nya yung box ng ring. Dun na ko mas lalo nanginig. Hindi ko maintindihan yung nararamdaman ko.”
There was just no way that she could have said no after Andrew, with the help of his friends, nailed the proposal.
Crying and shaking, she said, “Of course, yes!” and everyone cheered for them. (MN)
