Pinay OFW returns home to donate kidney to her ailing mother

An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Taiwan took a leap of faith and went home to the Philippines to donate her kidney to her mother who’s battling a chronic disorder.

Kristine Tambalong said she did not have second thoughts going home upon learning of her mother’s medical condition.

“Malakas pa po siya nun eh.Nag-celebrate kami ng 60th birthday niya , tapos bigla na lang siyang nanghina,” Kristine told GMA News, referring to her mom, Edna.

Edna’s doctors told them that the best donor for a new kidney will be a relative whose organ is compatible to her body.

That’s when Kristine made up her mind and decided to donate one of her kidneys. Edna initially rejected the offer.

“Ayokong madamay siya sa sakit ko, mag-anak pa siya,” Edna said.

Her daughter however would not allow anything bad to happen to her mother.

“Inalagaan niya kami. Wala akong hindi gagawin para sa kanya,” Kristine said.

The cost of Kidney transplant is also something they needed to deal with which was why Kristine went to a noontime TV show popular for giving monetary rewards.

” I cannot lose my mother at an early age,” Kristine said.

Mother and her daughter went to a kidney transplant in July 2019 which turned out to be successful.

Kristine is set to go back to abroad next year. (TN)
