Pinoy wins photography contest in Germany

A Filipino bagged the grand prize at the recent 2019 EyeAm Awards in Germany.

Marlon Villaverde, who hails from Lucban, Quezon, won in the photojournalist category.

His winning piece, “Mahal na Senyor” or “Image of the Dead Christ,” won the prestigious prize in what can be considered as one of the biggest photography competitions in the world.

Millions of photographers from different countries joined the competition.

Both professional and amateur photographers were allowed to join in the contest.

Villaverde said his winning photo was taken in Lucban, Quezon during a procession of the image of the “Mahal na Senyor”on a Good Friday in celebration of Pinoy Catholics’ Lent.

Villaverde adds that he dedicates his victory to his hometown and country.

Contestants were given 10 categories to choose from: The Mobile Photographer, The Traveller, The Street Photographer, The Great Outdoors, The Minimalist, The Portraitist, The Architect, The Creative, The Foodie, and The photojournalist.

  1. Hi i just want to comment. Marlon Villaverde did not won the Grand Prize nor the Photographer of the Year as they call it. But he won the Photojournalist Category among 1 million entries down to 100 entries of ten categories.
