The Filipino’s eye for design rises at the world stage once again as 2015 The Filipino Times Rizal Awardee and Fashion Designer of the Year Michael Cinco becomes the first Filipino fashion designer to showcase his works in a solo museum exhibition at the Savannah College of Art and Design’s (SCAD) Museum of Art.
In an exclusive interview with The Filipino Times, Cinco reveals that he was recommended by Jeffrey Felner, one of New York Times’ most respectable fashion critics, to SCAD’s Museum of Art director of fashion exhibition Rafael Gomes to make the solo exhibition a reality.
“I got an email from Rafael Gomez and he told me he wants to exhibit my couture gowns worn by famous celebrities in the red carpet, music videos, films and concerts,” shares Cinco.
Titled “Impalpable Couture”, Cinco will be featuring his elegant couture pieces – the likes which have been worn by the award winning icons at iconic events including the Met Gala, Cannes Film Festivals and the Golden Globes: “I’m exhibiting couture pieces worn by Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, Aishwarya Rai, and more.”
Cinco now joins the ranks of fellow internationally renowned fashion designers who have done their solo exhibitions at the prestigious SCAD Museum of Art, including Oscar de la Renta, Vivienne Westwood, and Guo Pei.
“Impalpable Couture” runs until January 5, 2020 and is open to the public with the cost of museum admission.
