Pinay breast cancer patient survives double mastectomy, grateful for second chance at life

Filipinas always show resilience even in times when they seem to face life’s toughest challenges.

Breast cancer survivor Gie Drew shares that she continues to fight the disease with the help of her family and friends, even after her major operation.

“I’m taking medication for 5 years And I feel 100% well now and happy after my double mastectomy last Oct 5, 2018 here in the UK. My family gave me strength to persist and fight breast cancer,” shares Drew.

Drew has been diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2001 and has been surviving the ordeal for more than 18 years now. She shares that one of the reasons that she launched “Shades of Pink Society” was to form a core support group for Filipinos and other expats to come together and seek support so that they’re wouldn’t be alone in their struggles “Being a breast cancer survivor twice changed my outlook in life. I’m always grateful to our Lord for giving me a loving and supportive family & friends. I hope that I’ve inspired fellow survivors in Abu Dhabi thru founding ‘Shades of Pink Society’.”

She also acknowledged and thanked Abu Dhabi-based doctors for helping her with her treatments during her stay here.“I am thankful to all the staff and Doctors at NMC Hospital most especially Dr Balaji and my Oncologist Dr Diab. They are all amazing that made my Chemo treatment more comfortable,” shares Drew.

The breast cancer survivor continues to share her words of gratitude and hopes that fellow cancer patients would seek both medical and emotional help so that they would learn that they’re not alone in their struggles: “Having cancer is literally fighting for your life, I nearly gave up when I was doing chemo, been to the emergency here most of time as my body wasn’t reacting well with chemo. Prayers and my family’s love helped me to survived. So my advice is to treat it before it’s too late and don’t be afraid to ask support.”
