Ahmed Mukhtar Al-Bulooshi has been recognized by the Dubai Police.

The recognition was given in celebration of the annual World Teachers Day held on October 5.

Al-Bulooshi’s efforts in helping visually-impaired children in using the braille system was recognized.

He also communicates with the children’s families and gave them tips on how to deal with children with visually-impaired conditions.

The teacher thanked the recognition given by the police and couldn’t help but recall his experience when he was still starting as a teacher.

He also narrated the challenges of braille books not being available and doing it manually so that the students can learn from him.

“Back then, books printed in braille were not available, as was the absence of specialists in the field. I, personally, printed the curriculum in braille, so that all visually-challenged students could get the chance to be a part of the educational system and learn how to read and write in the language.” the teacher said.

Al Bulooshi continued: “Earlier, families would refuse to enroll their visually-challenged children in schools because first they did not trust the institutions and were also unaware of the latest methods for teaching these children. However, we gradually gained their trust and today, the visually-challenged children study with other students at the schools run by the UAE’s Ministry of Education.”
