First Filipino co-owned company makes big waves at entrepreneurship awards in UAE

New Perspective Media Group, the official publisher of The Filipino Times, has been recognized as one of the finalists in the 8th Gulf Capital SME Awards in five categories, including the much-coveted Gulf Capital Business of the Year award.

This marks a couple of firsts in the entrepreneurship awards’ long history of awarding where a Filipino national was able to make it to the final roster. It also marks a first for a company servicing Filipinos to get into the roster of finalists.

According to the organizers, NPM Group CEO and co-founder Dr. Karen Remo, a finalist for Business Leader of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year awards categories, is the first Filipino national to ever make it in the shortlist of the said awards.

“Judges were impressed by Dr. Karen’s determination to succeed and her passion for her business and the Filipino community.  Dr. Karen proved herself to be a strong leader with passion and commitment,” said Louise Baird, Head of Events at MEED, the organizer of the Gulf Capital SME Awards.

In addition, the company, which employs professionals from 10 different nationalities, has also been named as a finalist in the Small B2B Business of the Year and CSR Programme of the Year awards.

His Excellency Paul Raymund Cortes, Philippine Consul General, Dubai & Northern Emirates, said: “We congratulate New Perspective Media and Dr. Karen Remo for uplifting the image of the Filipino professionals and the Filipino entrepreneurs. That they are shortlisted to be one of the best in these fields as determined by The Gulf Capital Business of the Year award shows the resolve of the Filipino to rise above the rest of the other expatriates in this part of the world.

“But although this award is determined by standards of others, the excellent repute of The Filipino Times and Dr Remo, among their fellow Filipinos and among the community in the Gulf is something that must be celebrated and must be highlighted. For this, we hope that the New Perspective Media and Dr. Remo continue to pave the way for more Filipinos to be recognized in the global arena as we truly deserve,” said Cortes.
