In an effort to lessen plastic waste, about 50 stalls and eateries located inside the canteen of Quezon National High School in Lucena City have forgone the use of styrofoam and plastic packaging to serve lunch.
What they use instead are banana leaves supported by Manila paper, according to a report by GMA News.
As for the use of utensils, they are using those made of metal so they can scrub, wash, and clean them so it can be reused.
Banana leaves being used as packaging became popular when news about it in Thailand reached international news organization in March this year.
According to a separate report from Forbes, of the 9 billion tons of plastic ever produced, only nine percent of it has been recycled.
