TFT Awards exemplifies Filipino role models through media

The Filipino Times Awards, since its inception in 2015, has been a platform for Filipino individuals to let their achievements shine, and this includes people who work in the media industry here in the UAE.

As over a million Filipinos in the UAE work in their respective fields, they consume media on a daily basis – among those is the radio airwaves that stream music, news, and more.

2018 TFT Awards Media Personality of the Year Louise Da Costa continues her path as a Pinay trailblazer as the Content Director and Radio presenter of Tag 91.1 as she leads her team to support the Filipino community in the UAE.

“As the only Filipino Language radio station in the UAE, we have made it our responsibility to constantly find ways to assist and uplift the community through info and entertainment, be it through initiatives to connect people to their loved ones, to promote health and well-being through sports, or to encourage environmental awareness through social media and incentivized call outs,” shared Da Costa.

Recognition of excellence

Da Costa has been nominated in the past several years prior and her win at the latest awards night that took place in 2018 summed up her achievements that she shared with the community in her “Having been nominated in the past and finally winning the award felt like all the praise and compliments that I have received from friends and loved ones was summed up into a tangible trophy that serves as a pat on the back,” said Da Costa.

However, she knew that beyond the trophy that she received is an even greater responsibility to continue her efforts to connect Filipino communities together through her platform: “It’s a reminder that I was recognized for excellence and I must strive to continue living up to that recognition.”

Building new bridges

After winning the award, the 2018 TFT Awards Media Personality of the Year recipient shared that it opened up new avenues for collaboration with other entities for her to continue her cause. “The publicity around the TFT awards was able to open networking opportunities, attracting like-minded individuals who believe in achieving excellence not just for themselves but for the community,” shared Da Costa.

She shares that TFT Awards should continue being the platform to recognize Filipino achievers who bring pride to the country not just in the Middle East, but worldwide: “As Filipinos working in an international arena, we must constantly strive to reflect the best of who we are as a people and as individuals. What better way to further exemplify Filipino excellence than by using this platform, the TFT awards, to highlight fellow achievers. Now is the time to recognize your peers to further motivate them to be an inspiration to others.”
