Davaoeña won bronze in 2019 Chungju World Martial Arts Masterships

A Davaoeña has earned a bronze medal in the recently-concluded 2019 Chungju World Martial Arts Masterships in Chungju, South Korea.

Sydney Sy Tancontian bagged third bronze in a world tournament, according to Sunstar Davao.

She earned her first two bronze medals in the World Sambo Championships in 2018 and the second one was in the 2019 Sambo World Cup Kharlapiev Memorial Competition last March 2019 in Moscow, Russia.

Her recent win was against Mongolia’s Sainbuyan Bataan with a score of 1-3 in the women 65+ kilograms semi-finals. She also defeated Maduri Perera of Sri Lanka.

Tancontian thanked those who supported her and promised to do better in the next competitions.

The 19-year-old and her younger brother Chino are among the country’s top bets in the sambo event for the upcoming Philippines 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games on November 30 to December 11.
