Son of electrician, manicurist tops Electrical Engineering exams

A son of an electrician and manicurist is one of the topnotchers of a recent Electrical Engineering Board Exam.

Twenty-one-year-old Gerald Mier told ABS-CBN News he could not believe he would pass the exams.

“Ang alam ko lang makakapasa ako pero ‘yung mag-top, hindi ko ini-expect kasi talagang mahirap ang exam,” Mier told ABS-CBN News.

He said that even during his review center days, poverty still gets in the way in pursuing his dream.

Mier’s parents were emotional after finding out that their son passed the board exams and it’s a bonus that he ranked second place.

Mier said it was his father, an electrician, who inspired him to take that course.

He was a consistent dean’s lister and finished cum laude at Bicol University.

Now a licensed electrical engineer, Mier said he will give all his best to pay it forward.
