A school is often times dubbed as the extension of a child’s home. Hence, looking for the perfect school here in the UAE to entrust a child’s education can be exhausting for Filipinos seeking that perfect balance between quality and affordability.

One such educational institution that fulfills that optimal balance is Al Alfiah Filipino Private School (AFPS) that has recently marked its 3rd year of providing quality, affordable, high-tech education to Filipino youth in Dubai and the Northern Emirates and is currently home to nearly 500 students from Kindergarten 1 to Grade 12.

Infusing technological advancement with teaching strategy
Standing proud in Al Azra School Zone at the emirate of Sharjah, AFPS is the first Filipino school to provide high-tech facilities such as smartboards, projectors, and dedicated laptops across each classroom. The vicinity of the campus is likewise equipped with a public announcement system, CCTV-equipped classrooms, and near-field communication (NFC) enabled identification cards.

AFPS also provides adequate support to students like individual and group counseling, career guidance and internship placement, free printing of school papers, provision of school materials for projects and other school related work. AFPS is also known for its unparalleled support to its students when it comes to academic researches, on and off campus educational exposures and symposiums.

Notable achievements
While the school may still be young, it has already made its mark across the country – winning several accolades in major events including the UAE’s Think Science Fair (TSF) where the AFPS delegation made podium finishes in various categories in the national level.

Think Science Fair 2019. “Decarbonizer” and “BagAirge InhalAir” finished 1st place in the Applied Science and Best Display category, respectively, while “TAPP” placed 3rd in the Innovation in Energy and Environment category. Other entries made it as finalists in the prestigious competition which saw submissions from other educational institutions from across the UAE. AFPS is the only Filipino school to have made it to the finals, eventually bagging awards against other schools.
Think Science Fair is an annual competition designed to develop interest among students in the field of science, technology, and innovation.

9th Environmental Excellence Award. On an almost similar competition, AFPS made waves among other schools in Sharjah as it bagged numerous environmental awards. “Travis” won 1st place in the Environmental Invention category, while the film “Making a Difference” won 2nd place in the Environmental Film category. Other entries made it as finalists in the said competition as well. EESA is a competition organized by Bee’ah, UAE’s leading integrated environmental, recycling, and waste management company.

Expo-Sciences International 2019. Soon after the awarding of the TSF, “Decarbonizer”, “TAPP”, and “BagAirge InhalAir” were sent an invitation to participate in the MILSET Expo-Sciences International 2019 which will be held later this month at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The event, according to its organizers, “is the largest event in the UAE focusing exclusively on the scientific creativity of young aspiring scientist from all over the world”.

Nurturing students’ inquisitive minds
At the helm of all these achievements is the school’s principal, Marjorie F. Nazaret. An educator herself, she understands the importance of exposing the students to different learning avenues. When asked about her secret in leading the school to where it is today, she said, “the secret is to not have a secret. I make sure that everyone understands the purpose and their role in every engagement we make. I make sure that what is expected of each of my members are conveyed so they can deliver accordingly.”

The achievements of the AFPSians in these competitions are a testament of the quality of education that AFPS provides. One that does not sacrifice quality at the expense of affordability. For nearly 3 years now, AFPS is the beacon of academic excellence among the Filipino community. A true testament of bringing change in the lives of the Filipino youth in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. AFPS: Making a Difference!

Filipino parents who wish enroll their children in this forward-looking, academic institution located at Al Azra School Zone in Sharjah can visit their website at www.afps.ae, or give them a call at 06 522 3115.
