Pinay to head int’l environmental law academy

A Filipina law professor and staunch environment advocate has been elected to head the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Academy of Environmental Law (IUCNAEL).

Rose Liza Eisma-Osorio is a professor at the University of Cebu College of Law where she teaches environmental law public and private international law, legal research and writing, and human rights as per a report from Cebu Daily News.

She received the prestigious Tatak UP awards in 2018.

Eisma-Osorio is one of the founders and managing trustee of the Philippine Earth Justice Center (PEJC), which spearheaded the “dolphin case” that was filed at the Supreme Court.

The objective of the petition filed by Eisma-Osorio with colleagues Benjamin Cabrido Jr. and Gloria Estenzo-Ramos is to protect the marine mammals from the harmful effects of the oil exploration at the Tanon Strait Protected Seascape.

The IUCNAEL is an international network of approximately 200 environmental law faculties and research centers from 60 countries.
