More men are into spending on wellness routines, says Spa association

There are more men who pamper themselves by going to spas, according to an official of the International Spa Association.

Associated Press reported that the wellness industry in the US generates up to $18.3 billion in revenue in 2018.

But spa professionals took notice that men are enjoying having themselves pampered in a spa as they avail of massages, facials, among others. “We’re seeing a lot more men going to spas,” said Garrett Mersberger, marketing director of a well-known spa in the USA.

“It used to always be a female-driven thing. We’re now seeing 50-50, if not swinging more toward the males,” he added.

The group noticed the trend started in 2017 when the association reported 49 percent of spa customers were men, up from 29 percent in 2005.

Spa owners have adopted to the trend that changes were made in treatment areas, relaxation areas and changing stations.

The competition has reached a fever pitch.

“People are trying to get creative. They want to be different. They don’t want to be just another spa,” Mersberger said.
