Morocco getaway: Abu Dhabi OFW shares the experience

DUBAI: Eid breaks are usually about unwinding and recharging; for most overseas Filipino workers, it’s also about indulging in getaways.

Days ahead of the just-concluded Eid Al Adha long weekend, an OFW in Abu Dhabi, along with her peers, went to Morocco – yes the land of the famed and fabled Hassan II Mosque, and yes, Casablanca.

“One of the most beautiful countries I ever been and surpassed the countries we’ve been with fam-friends, not just the place but the beauty that depths within it. The people were very friendly, very sweet and kind,” said Tathee Belga.

“They were naturally gracious and it is embedded in them! What I love the most were the arts, the beautiful crafts they have and the handmade products. The fresh juices with a very low price. The unforgettable taste of delicious local food. It’s just incredibly savory. Their homes were uniquely themed with a sense of Arabic and European styles, so-called Riad,” Belga said.

Among things to do is camping out in the desert and sleeping under the stars.

“There were a lot of different museums, too — castles, tombs, historical places and more,” she said.

Morocco has since the 1960s a popular haven for people of the arts and music. It is a country situated in North African straddling the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea.

Must-see places include the time-warping Marrakesh medina, a mazelike medieval quarter.
