526 teeth removed in boy’s mouth in India

Doctors in India have discovered 526 teeth in a 7-year-old boy after he complained of jaw pain.

The discovery was made last month when the boy was admitted in a hospital due to swelling in his molars and jaws.

An x-ray was conducted on the boy’s mouth and the doctors found a sac filled with abnormal teeth.

The rare condition is called compound composite odontoma.

It’s cause is still unknown it could be genetic or caused by radiation.

The surgery to remove the teeth took place last month, doctors are still studying each tooth.

“There were a total of 526 teeth ranging from 0.1 millimeters (.004 inches) to 15 millimeters (0.6 inches). Even the smallest piece had a crown, root and enamel coat indicating it was a tooth,” one of the doctors told CNN.

The boy was discharged three days after the surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.

Doctors hope that the boy’s case could help the public realize that it is better to understand if there are major dental problems.
