A content portal on travel and food has ranked New Zealand’s Kiwi accent as the world’s sexiest. The Filipino topped the Asian list and ranked 21st across the globe.
“While top rated attractions and beautiful destinations that look great on your Instagram are valid reasons to visit somewhere, what about the people in the countries themselves? More specifically, what about all those sexy accents you can listen to while you travel?” said Big 7 Travel in its post about a worldwide survey of its readers.
“There’s almost 7,000 languages in the world, with even more varieties of accents, but which is the best?”
Landing last on 50th was Croatian, which the travel site described as the “least popular Slavic accent.”
The New York accent, which hit 44th, is “fast and hyper-nasal, yet quite charming at times,” according to the survey.
At 34th is the Russian accent, described as “clear, direct and surprisingly sexy” despite having short vowels and a strong sound.
The Greek, at 33rd “can often sound similar to Spanish, yet not as melodic.”
Filipinos also got the highest ranking among other Asian countries.
“Gentle and soft, the accents you’ll hear when in the Philippines are simply lovely,” Big 7 Travel described the Filipino twang, which landed 21st in the rankings.
The Kiwi accent was named the sexiest around the world, followed by South African, Irish, Italian and Australian accents.
“To a novice ear, the New Zealand accent might sound just like the Australian accent, but Big 7 Travel readers disagree. The ‘Newzild’ dialect is outrageously charming,” said the portal.
Afrikaans, the second sexiest, “is a hugely popular accent with many people across the globe, thanks to their unique tones and Saffa slang.”
“People the world over love the Irish accent,” said the Big 7 Travel survey results, while Italian is “completely beautiful.”
“Any word in Italian sounds sexy.”
And the Australian? “Pronouncing words long and slow – and often skipping the ends of them completely – is a real turn on apparently,” said portal of the fifth sexiest accent in the world according to its survey.
Other Asian countries who made the list include Vietnam and India.
